Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current GMAT format?

The current GMAT has 64 questions across Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights. Each section is 45 minutes, for 2 hours and 15 minutes of timed work, plus an optional 10-minute break. The earlier GMAT Focus Edition name was retired; it is now simply called the GMAT.

How many questions are on the GMAT?

There are 64 questions: 21 Quantitative Reasoning questions, 23 Verbal Reasoning questions, and 20 Data Insights questions. The sections contribute equally to the total score, so a balanced study plan matters.

What GMAT score do I need for business school?

The GMAT does not have a universal passing score. Total scores range from 205 to 805, and each program sets its own expectations based on its applicant pool and admissions process. Review the score ranges published by the programs you intend to apply to.

How much does the GMAT cost?

In the United States, the GMAT fee is currently US $275 at a test center and US $300 online. Fees can vary by country, and rescheduling or cancellation can add charges, so confirm the amount during registration.

Can I use a calculator on the GMAT?

A calculator is available only for specified Data Insights question types. You cannot use a calculator in Quantitative Reasoning, so build comfort with arithmetic, estimation, and elementary algebra without one.

Can I review answers on the GMAT?

Yes. At the end of each section, the Question Review & Edit feature lets you review bookmarked responses and change up to three answers, provided you have time remaining in that section. You cannot return to a completed section.

How often can I retake the GMAT?

You must wait at least 16 days between GMAT attempts. GMAC permits up to five attempts in a rolling 12-month period and does not impose a lifetime attempt limit. Check current registration policies before booking another appointment.
